Seven Important Points Covered in "Maharishi
Mahesh Yogi's Transcendental Meditation" by Robert Roth -- A Book Review
1) Transcendental Meditation is not a
religion. It derives from a tradition of knowledge which was prevalent in ancient India, known as the Vedic (vaydik) tradition.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi brought the essence of this wisdom forward into modern times by reviving the Vedic system of effortless
meditation, known today as Transcendental Meditation, or "TM".
2) Transcendental Meditation is taught today in the same scientific manner of instruction as in times past. This system allows the experience of
the new TM practitioner to be re-inforced each step of the way with further knowledge, so that maximum effectiveness is achieved.
This great benefit of TM for mental, physical, and social health and well-being can only be achieved through teaching
imparted by a trained instructor of Transcendental Meditation.
4) Transcendental Meditation is taught on a global basis by a non-profit organization. In many cases instruction
is provided free of charge to students who cannot pay the standard course fee. Transcendental Meditation instruction includes
a lifetime-available program of knowledge about the further, equally-effective Vedic technologies of ancient times;
and free checking of progress, as necessary, in the practice of Transcendental Mmeditation -- at any TM center in the world.
5) Transcendental
Meditation is now being recommended by respected authorities such as Oprah Winfrey and Dr. Mehmet Oz, who also pay for all their employees to learn TM. Oprah says, about Transcendental Meditation: "The
one thing I want to continue to do is center myself everyday, and make that a practice for myself. Beacuse I am 1,000 percent
better when I do that ... 1,000 percent better!"
And Dr. Oz on TM for his company: “The first thing I noticed [after his staff learned Transcendental Meditation] was a change
in the tone and the texture of the dialogue -- away from dwelling on problems towards a much more thoughtful, insightful,
clever way of solving problems. Instead of highlighting the issues that were separating us, my team was deriving bliss and
joy from finding solutions.”
6) Transcendental Meditation is being taught to children in school and to adults, as well, for relief from
ADHD. It has been effective for treatment of diabetes and hypertension in Native American communities. It is used in top social programs for the homeless -- and even for inmates in state prisons.
